Senior Tax Preparer

  • Resposibilities:
    • Advanced Tax Preparation & Review
      • Prepare complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts.
      • Review tax returns prepared by junior staff for accuracy and compliance.
      • Identify tax-saving opportunities and provide strategic recommendations to clients.
    • Client Advisory & Consultation
      • Conduct detailed interviews with clients to gather financial information and understand tax objectives.
      • Explain complex tax issues, planning strategies, and regulatory requirements.
      • Develop long-term tax plans to help clients minimize liabilities.
    • Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
      • Stay current on changes in tax laws, regulations, and IRS guidance.
      • Ensure all filings comply with federal, state, and local tax codes.
      • Assist clients with audits, IRS correspondence, and resolving tax issues.
    • Leadership & Team Support
      • Mentor, train, and support junior preparers and administrative staff.
      • Guide team members in tax research, data entry, and documentation best practices.
      • Oversee workflow during tax season and help manage deadlines.
    • Quality Assurance & Documentation
      • Perform final reviews of returns before submission.
      • Maintain accurate records, supporting documents, and client files.
      • Implement quality-control procedures to reduce errors and improve efficiency.
    • Customer Service & Relationship Management
      • Build and maintain strong client relationships.
      • Address client concerns promptly and professionally.
      • Provide year-round support, including estimated payments and planning.
  • Skills Required:
    • Technical Skills
      • Expert knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations.
      • Strong proficiency with professional tax software (e.g., Drake, UltraTax, ProSeries, Lacerte).
      • Advanced understanding of financial statements and accounting principles.
      • Ability to handle complex tax returns (S-Corps, C-Corps, Partnerships, Estates/Trusts).
      • Strong research skills for resolving uncommon or complex tax issues.
    • Soft Skills

      • Strong analytical and critical-thinking abilities.
      • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

    • Preferred Qualifications
      • Valid PTIN (required for paid tax preparers in the U.S.).
      • Enrolled Agent (EA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or other advanced tax certification strongly preferred.
      • 3–5+ years of professional tax preparation experience, including complex returns.
      • Experience preparing and reviewing individual, corporate (S-Corp & C-Corp), partnership, and trust/estate tax returns.
      • Demonstrated expertise in tax planning and client advisory services.
      • Proficiency with professional tax software such as Drake, UltraTax, ProSeries, or Lacerte.
      • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws, and the ability to apply updated regulations.
      • Prior experience training or mentoring junior tax preparers is a plus.

    • Quality Assurance

      • Assist clients in assembling documentation required for audits or notices.
      • File tax returns electronically or by mail and track filing status.

  • Skills Required:

      • Familiarity with accounting principles and financial documents (W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, etc.).
      • Ability to analyze financial data and identify eligible credits/deductions.
